Wodyetia bifurcata

Foxtail palm

The foxtail Palms habitat are the gravel hills on Cape Melville in Cape York. It’s a very attractive palm with long 2-3m long leaves and grows to be up to 10m tall with a grey trunk. It produces large orange fruits (about the size of a duck egg!)

This palm was only discovered in the 1970’s and its seeds were always in high demand, the QLD government still has the Foxtail on their endangered species list, even though there are now many of these palms growing throughout the world.

The Foxtail Palm is fast becoming one of the most popular landscaping palms in the tropics and subtropics. It’s a very hardy palm and is able to handle full sun from an early age. It is also drought tolerant, wind tolerant and frost tolerant!
