ALOE AFRICANA
(African Aloe, African Tree Aloe)
Beautiful Tree Aloe from Africa adaptable to a wide range of conditions. Aloe Africana has blue-green foliage and bird-attracting yellow flowers. It is a solitary Aloe and grows up to 2m tall, wearing a skirt of died-off leaves. Leaves are armed with small, red spines. African Aloe is easy to grow, it thrives in coastal regions, is great as a pot plant and handles full sun to part shade. This tough plant also loves windy positions, and can survive light periods of frost. It suits a range of conditions, but benefits from regular applications of compost or organic fertilizers. Plant in sandy, free draining soil. Keep dry over winter, and although this plant is extremely drought hardy once established, it will benefit from regular watering over summer. They are fairly slow growing and flower at an age of around 4-5 years.
