AGAVE PARRYI

(Parry's Agave)

Parry’s Agave is a slow-growing agave native to New Mexico. Leaves are grey green and have a spine at the tip. One of the distinguishing features is that the point on the tip (which is typically dark tan, brown or black) is darker than the leaf. Because of its compact size, plus low water usage and very low maintenance, the agave is considered a good landscaping plant. Mature Agaves produce a 12 foot stalk with bright yellow blooms. They die after blooming, as all leaf and root resources are put into the stalk, flowers and seeds. It does however produce offsets with can easily be propagated. It can also be propagated by seed.

Parry’s Agave requires full sun with little or no water when established. It is very adaptable to soil types, but does need good drainage. It requires minimal maintenance, but it’s good to remove the plant stalk and dead parent plant after blooming.
